We Believe Jewelry Should Be…
Sustainable
Achieving true sustainability in jewelry production is a journey, and requires an intense level of activism and sourcing. We aren’t able to call ourselves sustainable yet - but it is at the forefront of all of our jewelry-making decisions.
To that end, we focus on creating unique jewelry using recycled materials, repurposed items, and upcycled older jewelry items. Additionally, we look at how and where items are produced, using local and ethical sources as much as possible. We promise to be transparent with you and clear about the terminology we use when describing our products.
Personal
Jewelry is an incredibly personal thing. We use it for self expression, to help change our mood, and as a link to the times and people that are most special to us.
Our goal is to offer pieces that speak to you that you will treasure for a lifetime, not just for a season. Moreover, we love bringing old jewelry a new lease on life.
If you have a piece of jewelry that is lingering in a drawer, or any other special memento, we would love to customize your keepsakes into something special for you to wear.
Accessible
We believe that everyone deserves to feel beautiful and their best. To achieve that, our pieces are designed to be enjoyed by all. Our pieces are nickel & lead free, use tarnish-resistant materials, and necklaces have 2” extender chains for easy customization.
However, if for some reason one of our pieces needs adjustment for you to enjoy it, we are happy to customize our pieces at minimal (or no) cost to you. If you need a different type of clasp on a necklace, a clip-on earring instead of a wire post, or a length adjustment on a piece to make these items accessible for you to wear, please reach out.
Additionally, if sustainability is important to you, you should not have to spend a fortune on your jewelry to express that. We will always balance our sustainability efforts with our goal of keeping our items accessible and affordable to as many people as possible.
Our Terminology
Throughout our product descriptions you’ll see a lot of different terms. Here is exactly what we mean by them.
Antique: an item that has considerable age and is typically over 100 years old.
Czech glass: glass produced in the regions of Bohemia and Silesia, which are now part of the Czech Republic. This centuries-long tradition of making glass is known for its craftsmanship, beauty, quality, and innovation.
Eco-friendly: a.k.a. environmentally friendly, a product that causes minimal to no harm to ecosystems or the environment.
Ethical sourcing: the process of ensuring the products being sourced are obtained in a responsible and sustainable way; that the workers involved in making them are safe and treated fairly; and that environmental and social impacts are taken into consideration during the sourcing process.
Green material: products that are energy efficient, durable, and typically require low maintenance. Green products are often made from recycled materials, renewable resources, and/or are biodegradable.
Recycled: taking material that was previously considered waste and converting it to a reusable material. Example: recycled glass beads are made from discarded glass bottles that are then melted into beads.
Repurposed: using a material for something other than its originally intended use. This can be modifying the item for a new use, or using the item wholly, but in a new way. Example: you could repurpose an old tire into strips of rubber for a bag, or repurpose the tire into a swing.
Sustainable: a product that is made with responsible materials, produced in an ethical way taking social impact into consideration, has an efficient life cycle, and can be disposed of with minimal impact to the environment or society.
Upcycled: the method of taking old, unwanted, worn, or damaged materials and transforming them into brand new pieces. Upcycled jewelry uses significantly fewer raw materials, which reduces the negative impacts of fashion production.
Vintage: an item that is from a different era and is a minimum of 20 years old.
Vintage-inspired: this indicates an item whose design reflects the aesthetic of a distinct time period but was not necessarily created during that time period.
